What is your position in your company or organisation?
What does your company of organisation do?
We promote alcohol-fueled cooking stoves and appliances throughout Africa. We promote the development of both commercialization projects and humanitarian projects (in conjunction with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees).
Project Gaia, Inc. is part of a global initiative to promote the development of clean-cooking fuels. By addressing economic, social, environmental, and health issues we seek to demonstrate the benefits of clean energy. By promoting alcohol fuels and appliances for households we hope to create a more sustainable and healthy environment. By initiating projects that prove the feasibility of alcohol fuels, we create robust markets for locally produced alcohol. By sharing our experiences and resources we seek to stimulate rural and urban economies through local job creation and enterprise. And by reducing carbon emissions, we seek to create a better future, especially for those living in poverty around the world.
In which African countries does your company or organisation operate?
Ethiopia (Gaia Association office- Addis Ababa), Nigeria. We have conducted pilot studies in Malawi and South Africa. We are currently engaged in a research project on ethanol cooking fuel in Madagascar. In mid-2010 we have plans to begin a new project in Kenya.
