I'm working for many years in solar cookers(research& promotion)in Sudan ,but till now there is no any market for Solar cookers in Sudan, there is a problem to convince women to adopt the technology,as solar cooker should be adapted to Sudanese cooking pattern. Now I'm thinking of exchange program between one of the African countries who had good experience in dissemination of solar cookers. Please I need to hear some ideas in this issue, also I want to know any organization which can help me in this issue.I have already contact International Solar Cooker org. in Kenya they are interested but they have no fund.

Dear Mawahib,

I came across this exact issue when a US NGO asked me to look into solar cookers for Sudan. When I met with Ahfad University they told me the exact same thing. You can not force women to change their cooking habits, so you must find a technology that works with the culture. A much better than solar cookers is to use waste shells from groundnuts, etc., press them into briquettes and use them for traditional cooking. It reduces waste, is cheap, reduces deforestation, and of course no problems with women being attacked when they look for firewood.
Dear Meghan,
Thank you for your response, I agree with you, but we need to do some effort on that ,we want to introduce solar cooker as alternative not a subsitute, I have some promising results with few women near Khartoum. So the main idea is to introduce solar cooker with other alternatives like the ones you suggested.
