Event Description

Defining Energy Access

Building consensus amongst practitioners on defining and measuring energy access

28th March – 15th April

GIZ and Practical Action

Hosted by

The HEDON Household Energy Network

GIZ and Practical Action would like to invite you to participate in an e-consultation to help build consensus amongst practitioners on the definition of energy access, develop appropriate indicators and outline approaches for measuring and monitoring.

In this e-consultation discussions will be structured around a consultation document produced by GIZ and Practical Action available on the e-consultation, and aim to address the key questions:

  • How should energy access be defined?   Mon. 28th March – Fri. 4th April
  • What are appropriate indicators for measuring energy access and how can they be prioritised?   Mon. 7th – Fri. 11th April
  • How can energy service data be collected and tracked?   Mon. 14th – Fri. 18th April

A key question will be introduced alongside a discussion forum at the start of each week (schedule as indicated above).  This aims to focus the discussions on the individual topics, although each forum will remain open for the three week duration of the e-consultation.  We invite contributions from all stakeholders and look forward to a lively debate.  We hope to incorporate outputs and updates as a result of this e-consultation in the Poor People's Energy Outlook 2011.

To participate in the e-consultation please visit and click on the "JOIN" button (if you are not already registered with HEDON the system will ask you to log in or register with HEDON).
